It's still no this year... but one day I will attend TypeCon. Living in Portugal, it's still rather difficult to attend a North American Conference, but I encourage everyone who can. TypeCon2008: The Punkts are Coming!
Type comes alive this summer as Buffalo plays host to TypeCon2008: Punkt. From the irreverent to the serious, the eclectic to the traditional, and the modern to the historical, SOTA’s tenth conference is a letterfest of talks, workshops, tours, exhibitions, and special events created for type lovers at every level. More than 70 legends and innovators will take part, including Chuck Bigelow, Matthew Carter, James Craig, Dard Hunter III, Akira Kobayashi, Pete McCracken, Jan Middendorp, David Pankow, Elizabeth Resnick, Stefan Sagmeister, Erik Spiekermann, Ilene Strizver, Jakob Trollbäck, House Industries, and NLXL. http://www.typecon.com/ |

ONE DAY POEM - Experimental Typography was the name that Jiyeon Song gave his work. This is the way we can see it, as an exploration of messages written in the environment. As the blog author wrote here. You can check out the original project's webpage here: http://people.artcenter.edu/~jsong5/thesis/index.html
A true inspirational project. Original information sent by Jorge P. |

As noted by Roger S. in the Fontforge Mailing List, two months ago, we have different alternatives to Cygwin on Windows. The one pointed out by Roger is andLinux. Today i've found out another one entitled Ulteo.
I'll have a couple of days free, so I've set my mind on testing these out. As I'm writing these lines I'm am installing the first one - andLinux on my Mobile Hard drive. If I'm not mistaken, they're both based on coLinux , a Linux Kernel based system that allows users to run Unix apps ata the same time they're running windows. It's not a virtuallization technique, as Innotek's VirtualBox (I'll also be trying this out later). Hopefully, it won't crash my computer and I'll be able to report it later on the Technical Documents section. I'd also like to point out that Ubuntu 8 and Fedora 9 are out! If all goes well I'll also have some free time to experiment on these distros (VirtualBox style. Sorry no hard drive space...). I've always had a "crush" on Fedora Core Distro, being the first one I got Fontforge working on... |

I Love Typography Blog has just published a new interview. Face to Face: An Interview With Stefan Hattenbach. Stefan Hattenbach started designing typefaces in 1996. In 2003, he established his own independent foundry and design studio, MAC Rhino Fonts (MRF). Proud A.S. Roma supporter and father of two, Stefan works his magic from a studio in the beautiful city of Stockholm.
It has all the quality of the interview iLT has gotten us accustomed. John Boardley conducts this interview with great smoothness, touching fine points, such as "Why do you design Type" and "Do you see your self more as an artist or an egineer?" and finnally "How do you design type?". These are specific questions that I have been strugling also to manage in my own personal life. Great sketches too. Thanks iLT! |
